Sir Winston Churchill - Picture of the Day 29 November
61
On the 29 November, 1951 The Conservative Party won the general election by a small majority, making Winston Churchill Prime Minister of Great Britain for the second time. It was a slim victory over the labour party, the final result was Conservatives and Associates - 321 seats; Labour - 295; Liberal - 6; and others 3. After he was elected prime minister one of his first most noticeable actions was 'renewing' the special relationship between Great Britain and the United States of America.
In June 1953, when he was 78, Churchill suffered a stroke after a meeting with the Italian Prime Minister Alcide De Gasperi at 10 Downing Street. Aware of the fact he was becoming unwell and unable to provide 'a strong front' for Britain he retired in 1955 and was then succeeded by Anthony Eden his mentor and his son in law. Churchill stayed an MP for several years playing some active parts but mostly as an advisor. On the 24th January 1965, after suffering another stroke 9 days previous, he died, exactly 70 years to the day that his father passed. He died at the most respectable age of 90.

Another avid fan of Winston Churchill. He may have been the greatest leader of the 20th Century (although Harry Truman could give him some competition, or even Franklin D. Roosevelt.) Nice photo. Great hub!
Great photo. I have heard of Winston Churchill but only in history class when I was in school as he died before I was born. But it is nice to know more about him. Thanks

I like this hub a lot, anything to do with history surrounding World War II in general and especially Churchill I find very interesting.
