Introduction

It can be an embarrassing thing to discuss with your doctor or even you own family. But there is no need, your doctor will be there to support you and so to should your family, there are hundreds of valid reasons why a vasectomy reversal may have to take place . For example you may have had the vasectomy procedure carried out in a previous relationship which has ended and are now in a new relationship and you both want to have children again, this is by far the most common. Another would be that the procedure has caused physical problems such as weight gain or even weeping of the urethra. Unfortunately mental problems are also less commonly attached to men who have had vasectomies, these are usually cases of depression or serious lack in confidence as they possibly feel less of a man, which of course is ridiculous and as ridiculous as a woman who takes birth control feeling less of a woman. The vasectomy process is an excellent way of stopping unwanted pregnancies and the reasons for this are vast and perfectly legitimate.

Facts About Vasectomy Reversal

A vasectomy reversal is the rejoining of the blocked or tied tubes. In cases where there is no excess pressure build up and no epididymal blow out has occurred, the vas deferens can be reconnected to the vas deferens. This is called a vaso-vasostomy and is the most common form of vasectomy reversal; your doctor will most likely suggest this procedure. The surgery is challenging, and it is performed with an operating microscope utilizing sutures which are finer than a human hair. The vas deferens two separated ends are usually reconnected with two.

In cases where an epididymal blow out (diagnosed during surgery by examining the fluid from the cut end of the vas deferens) has occurred, the vas deferens north of the vasectomy scar must be rejoined with the epididymal tube south of the blow out scar. This procedure is called a vaso-epididymostomy. This surgery is even more technically challenging than a vaso-vasostomy and should only be performed by a micro surgeon experienced with this procedure.

Vasectomy reversal is most commonly performed with general anesthesia, and the patient goes home the same day with no need for an overnight stay. The recovery is usually quick, but it can not be rushed into being ‘used’ refrain from heavy exercise and sex for the first two to three weeks.

Successes

The success rates of vasectomy reversal procedures are surprsingly high and with ever growing technology it appears the percentage of success will continue to grow. Of course the succes rate does relie partly on the time gap between the vasectomy and the reversal. If the time is less than ten years and there has been no epididymal blow out the success rate is around 95%. However it has been more then 15 years it is slightly lower at around 80%.

Summary

Remember there are plenty of specialists to perform this procedure which can be found on the Internet or through recommendation from your GP. Although I hope this information has been useful to you it is not in entirety and there is more help to be found so do your research. I wish you good luck in your future whether you decide to have the operation or otherwise.

The video below is by a well respected fertility doctor, he mentions most of the points that I myself have mentioned above. I agree with most of his explanations other than the success rates, he claims it is a much lower success rate than i have said. However I am not sure when this was filmed and so therefore i know that these procedures success has gathered great momentum over the last 2-3 years and has become a simple, successful procedure in the majority of cases.
